How to install Pegasus 4.70 on Linux + Wine

$
0
0

Prerequisites: Linux + Wine (suggestion: prepare the software and open a bottle too)

Detailed instructions:
1. Launch terminal, run Wine with Pegasus installer. You can also set the locales different way than your system locales, if needed (in my case, I want Pegasus to run with Czech locale so that I can use Czech diacritical sings. I also put Pegasus into a separate Wineprefix: env LANG="cs_CZ.UTF-8" WINEPREFIX="/home/david/.winetest-pegasus/" /home/david/D/dev/prog/linux/wine/1.7.54/wine-build/wine /home/david/D/download/Pegasus/w32-470.exe
2. Click "Setup" (WinZip Self-Extractor)
3. Click "Next >" (Pegasus Mail Installation)
4. Fill in the path wherever you want Pegasus to be installed to (Install the Pegasus Mail program files in:). For example C:\Program Files\E-mail clients\Pegasus (does not matter much, put it wherever you like, C:\PMAIL will do well too). Click "Next >"
5. Decide if you want to uncheck "Create Start menu shortcut for Pegasus" (this doesn't seem to work in Wine), and "Pre-configure a user mailbox" (not needed if you want to place your email folder on a specific place, this will be done later). Click "Next >"
6. Click "Finish"
7. Click "Exit" (Pegasus installation is now complete)
8. Open IERenderer.fff in any text editor (vi, Mousepad etc.). The .fff file is in the folder where you installed Pegasus to (e.g. /home/david/.winetest-pegasus/drive_c/Program Files/E-mail clients/Pegasus/Programs/IERenderer.fff)
9. Change "Form flags = 31" to "Form flags = 2", save, close.
10. Launch Pegasus for the first time (in my case env LANG="cs_CZ.UTF-8" WINEPREFIX="/home/david/.winetest-pegasus/" /home/david/D/dev/prog/linux/wine/1.7.54/wine-build/wine C:\\Program\ Files\\E-mail\ clients\\Pegasus\\Programs\\winpm-32.exe)
11. Select the first option for Pegasus running mode (I do not think other options are useful with Wine)
12. Type in the path of your choice for the mail to be kept in, click "OK" (e.g. C:\users\david\My email folder  or if you want to put it somewhere else than in the wine folder (.winetest-pegasus in my case), you can use drive Z: which automaticaly points to the root of your linux filesystem, so e.g. Z:\home\david\whatever)
Now you have a running Pegasus. Setup the internet, email account, email outgoing server etc. the same way as in Windows.

It will be also wise to install the latest version of BearHTML and libtidy.
You may also want to make a desktop icon and/or menu item to launch Pegasus. The command to be run will be something like that on line 10 above.

If you want to transfer existing Pegasus installation from Windows to Linux, it is easier:
First, either install Pegasus from scratch as per steps 1-9, or copy the Pegasus folders from Windows to the WINEPREFIX of your choice and edit the IERenderer.fff file as per steps 8-9.
Second, copy the email folder from Windows. Either put it in WINEPREFIX/drive_c/ in the same subdirectory where it was on Windows, or put it somewhere else and delete PMAIL.CFG in the Pegasus "Programs" folder and then set it as per steps 10-12.

Another REPLY problem in connection with Local User Names

Hi,

Apart from this issue http://community.pmail.com/forums/thread/31134.aspx, where Pmail doesn't sort out wrong formatted e-mail addresses within the FROM: field, we often experience the following problem in connection with Local User Names:

When a local user is sending an e-mail out to the internet (e.g. to: mr.example@domain.com) and is simultaneously setting a local user name in CC: of this e-mail, Mercury is correctly sending the e-mail to the ISP and is forwarding this e-mail also to the other local user in cc. So far so good.

Now the external recipient mr.example@domain.com at the internet is receiving this e-mail with its own e-mail client and wants to "reply to all" participants. His e-mail client is taking the FROM: address and is setting it as the new TO: address, and is additionally adding the Local User Name from the original CC: into the new CC:. But the local user name cannot be transmitted through the internet and will be rejected. This caused that not all local participants are receiving the replay mail.

Of course, I could instruct our users to use only complete internet e-mail addresses when distributing e-mails to mixed destination (external and internal recipients). But is seems they are not able to keep this rule in mind. And that's why many users complain about loss of information because they are often rejected from mail replies.

Is there any opportunity to avoid that Locl User Names in CC: are being transmitted to the internet? The best way would be, if Pmail (or Mercury) would replace any local user names with their real addresses.

We have the synonym.mer database in place. But this information is presently not being used by Mercury for Local User Replacing.

Cheers

Wrap of long lines

I have been using Winpmail since windows started. Just lately I find that long lines from received emails sometimes are not wrapped. I have used F5 and Crtl-F5. I have a feeling it is with emails sent from smart phones. I have sent emails to myself and these are wrapped when I change window sizes.I also seem to get emails with very small fonts.I have also been told by my relations that emaills from me do not wrap or fit on the screen with a very small font.

Is this me or other email apps?

I have been using 4.63 in Windows 8.1. I updated to 4.7 today with no changes to this long line wrap problem.

BTW I updated to W10 on a laptop and my programs including WinPmail 4.63 worked OK.

What hve I missed?

Hi All.

Could anybody please tell me whether it is possible to enter a csv list into a distribution list? I have about 300 people in the list and it would take a long time to enter all the addresses manually.

Access violation with Pegasus Version 4.70

A couple of days ago I updated to Version 4.70, build 546. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I've had several errors pop up when I try to open some emails.

The error is:

Access violation at address oo5D9A7B in module 'winpm-32.exe'. Read of address is DDDDDE49

This does not happen will all emails and I have not been able to find in common areas with those that do have the problem. I never had this with the previous versions.

Suggestions?

Copies of outgoing messages disappear (but can be found by searching)

(I'm running Pegasus Mail Version 4.70 (Win32), Feb 27 2014, build 546, on Windows 8.1)

I've noticed this gradually over the last few months - I'll send an email, and select a folder for my local copy; but when I open that folder I can't find the outgoing message.  Oddly, if I search for the message, it will be found.  I'm not sure this happens all of the time; usually I'm in the midst of work, and only notice when I need to go find a copy of a previously sent message.  It may happen all the time, or may happen only with certain folders.

I've searched the fora for similar reported problems - it seems something like this may have cropped up before, but I don't recall there being a clear solution.  One suggestion was to rebuild the hierarch.pm file; but I have a fairly substantial structure in place, and it would be a major pain to document it and rebuild it.  Especially if this has to happen periodically; maybe there is some programmatic way I could do that, so it would be easy to repeat.

I do have two mailboxes on my system; my main one in C:\PMAIL\whatever, as admin, and an archive one on a larger drive.  I'm the only user.

I don't know if it's related, but in some of the folders where this happens, the default sort order changes back to alphabetical by sender, no matter how I choose to view the folder.  (I thought it was a global setting to preserve the last view (sort order) - that works on most of my folders).

how to clone a pop definition?

I have multiple gmail and multiple yahoo addresses (as well as a few at more obscure sites). These only differ in the user name and password. Is there some way to clone (i.e., make a copy of) a pop definition and then just change these few things so that I don't have to set the port and the pop.smtp.mail etc. each time? I thought I saw something that suggested this in a help note but I can't figure out how to clone an existing definition.  It's easy enough to clone an "identity," but I'm interested in cloning a "definition."

Outlook Calendar Appointsments - opportunity for showing in Pmail?

Hi guys,

From time to time we are receiving Outlook calendar appointments from business partners of other companies. From my point of view this is very presumptuous behaviour from that guys when taking for granted that the whole world is working with Outlook and should be able to read such appointments or invitations. Pmail is not able to read this special attachment. It is always an additional txt attachment with about 2.3 k in size but with not recognizable content therein.

Nevertheless since some of my users are working with Thunderbird (and Lightning), they are able to read this calendar appointment from Outlook. They could also take over the date appointment into the lightning calendar.

Is there an opportunity that Pmail could read that kind of Outlook calendar appointments? There is no need to export the date into any calendars. We would be happy if Pmail could only show the attached date/time entries.

Cheers

Unable to move messages

I can't find any reference to this problem in the forums so here's a brief overview. Every week I receive a number of emails with large attachments (up to 35Mb) from my students. Once the contents have been graded, I want to move the original emails into another folder. Normally this works perfectly, but lately I keep getting this error message:

"There is insufficient space available on the drive or volume to complete the current operation. Free up some space on the drive by deleting some files, or if it is a network volume, by arranging for more disk quota to be granted to you."

The drive concerned has almost 2TB of free space and this is a near new standalone PC running Win7Pro 64bit - PMail v4.63. "Compact folders" is set to zero, I've reindexed all of the folders concerned, checked their consistency and recovered deleted space. Nothing works. Has anybody else come across this problem? Any thoughts on what's going on? Help please!

PFD drag and drop problem

This problem has consumed a lot of this afternoon and I would be very grateful for any advice.

If I try to drag and drop a PDF file into the attachments tab of an email I get a message:

The file 'C:\Users\User\Desktop\TURBINE\CPRW info and photos\Cycle Route 8 map from PDFC.pdf' cannot be opened by Pegasus Mail. This usually indicates that another application currently has it open.

Pegasus Mail cannot add the file as an attachment to your message. To correct this problem, close the file in the other application then attempt to add it as an attachment again.

This would be OK if the file really was open, but it isn’t.

Opening the PDF and closing it again doesn’t help.

Rebooting doesn’t help.

If I copy and paste the file onto my desktop, that’s fine, and the PDF drags and drops into the attachments tab in the normal way.

This problem is confined to PDFs, but I can’t see any thing in Adobe Reader preferences that would cause this.

Folder permissions look OK too, and anyway other files drag and drop as attachments OK.

I’ve recently moved up to Win7 from XP, where this wasn’t a problem. Nor is it a problem on my laptop which is still using XP.

Baffled!

Using IMAP rather than POP

to ask if anyone thinks this will create problems?

Time Warner Cable Webmail user ... cannot REPLY-TO ... Pegasus Mail user ...

Patience with me please ... I have tried to address this with TWC with little luck.

When I do Reply-To:   which normally inserts some "quoting characters" along with original message into my email client (which happened to be a web client by TWC).

This all works for all my email sending buddies ... except the Pegasus mail user ... whose messages are coming through as "text/html" even though fairly plain.

How can I debug this problem ?  Is it some bizarre character in the email ?

Sendto and Mailto when running multiple instances

Until yesterday I could count on the last instance of Pegasus Mail started (when running multiple instances) was the one invoked by the Sendto context menu or by Mailto links.  Obviously that has changed.  I haven't done extensive testing yet but I use a batch file to start the instance so know that I have not changed the startup order.  AFAIK, there is a registry entry that contains the last instance started which I assumed is what Sendto and Mailto look at.  Does anyone know whether this is indeed the case?  If so, at what point during the Pegasus Mail startup is that registry entry written?

I plan to do some testing when I have time but would love to have some ideas about what might be affecting this behavior.

TIA!

Not able to open my pegasus email from gmail IMAP

Hi,

I have pegasus version 4.63.

I have 2 gmail email accts which I have set up to download in IMAP mode.

One of these IMAP gmail accts works perfectly.  The second IMAP gmail acct downloads the emails into it's Inbox and displays the most recent email in the viewer area.  When I try to either scroll down or select any other emails shown in the inbox view window, I get an error message and it will not view. Here is the error message I keep receiving:  "The IMAP server that manages this mailbox or folder has reported an error during the operation you have attempted to perform. The operation cannot be completed."

Any help would be appreciated, as currently the only way to view email from this gmail acct is to log into gmail itself.

thank you

    Lost mail from distribution list

    $

We have Pegasus 4.52 running in Windows 10, with multiple Demon aliases.  My husband and I both subscribe to a particular distribution list.  When this works properly, a full set of all the messages from the distribution list should be delivered to each of us.  Recently, I realised that neither of us was getting the full set of messages.  Some of the messages were only going to him, and some were only going to me.  None of the messages got to both of us, but between us we had the full set.  We don't have Content Control or Spamhalter switched on, as Demon's spam control is working pretty well.  I've checked with the listadmin, who said that as far as he could see, we were each being sent a copy of each message.

I have problems when someone sends a single mail addressed to both of us, since I can't find a way of setting up a mail rule that uses Boolean operators (e.g. if a mail is sent to n1 and n2, then copy to n1, copy to n2, then delete mail).  But each mail from the distribution list should come as two mails, one for him and one for me, so shouldn't be affected by this problem.  Unfortunately, Pegasus's log file syslog.pm doesn't seem to be being created properly, as it's not where it's supposed to be and the only copy I can find is an old one.  The system messages window doesn't say which rule is being invoked when messages are assigned to different mailboxes, so it doesn't tell me what's really going on.

Is this familiar to anyone?  Could the mail be going missing somewhere within Demon before it gets to Pegasus?

Unable to Open Messages in New Mail Folder Window - SOLVED!

System Win 7 Pro  64-bit with PMail v4.63; Firefox browser, v42.0

This is just a reminder note as the query has cropped up before it seems and my problem is now solved!

The system had been working fine until I had a "problem" two days ago in the evening.   PMail had been receiving and sending messages normally.   Later in the day downloading some messages they appeared in my New Message window list with some 70+ other messages.  When I clicked on the Open button at the top nothing happened apparently, except for a dotted marquee round the message line.   I tried some other messages in the list which had opened on the days I received them.  I also checked messages in various subject folders I could not open these either.

I searched the forum, but the only two threads were
    06-21-2008, 1:56    Barry L
"Unable to read down-loaded message after selecting 'open' in 'new mail folder' "
    10-29-2014, 3:05       DrPeter
    "Cannot Open messages"

The first thread cleared up "my problem".   It was finger trouble - I must have widened the window to display various messages, then closed it up and later found messages were not appearing in the reduced size window!

    Pegasus program not responding

    $

I have been driven mad for months, as I will be in the middle of writing an email and suddenly everything will lock and I can't write any more - or Pegasus will cut off altogether and I have to log on again. I find the mail I was writing in 'Open saved messages' and finish it, and then it will send. Each time I get a 'program not responding' message and an error report.  This can also happen if I receive a long email with pictures or attachments. Pegasus will start to download it and then suddenly stop. All I can do is click on Task Manager, see "not responding" against Pegasus and end the task.  When I get the error message, it says:

     ERROR SIGNATURE:

szAppName: Winpm-32.exe  szAppver: 4.4.1.0   szModName: hungapp

    szModVer: 0.0.0.0    szModName: hungapp

    TECHNICAL INFO - ERROR REPORT:

    .....Temp\WERfe89.dir00\winpm-32.exe.mdmp

    .....Temp\WERfe89.dir00\appcompat.txt

Does anyone know what is going on? If I leave the Pegasus email program open and go back to it half an hour later there will just be a blank screen. Again I have to 'end task' and log on again. It's very frustrating and time consuming.   I don't want to download another version of Pegasus or I'll lose all the saved emails that I have and need to refer back to. Help!!
