4.71 Queue Manager

Is anybody else noticing something strange with their Queue Manager on 4.71?

Although mails are sending OK they are not being deleted from the QM sub-window and that seems to be blocking new messages being listed on the QM.  To see what is currently in the queue rather than what was in the queue before the last send I have to shut QM and re-open it [I keep it minimised but open.]  It then behaves as described yet again.

Thanks

Disappearing POP3 accounts

Sometimes, suddenly, all my POP3 accounts simply disappear from my list of POP3 hosts (Tools/Internet Options/Receiving (POP3))

Other times only some of them are gone.

I have to Add them back which is becoming a pain.

The same sometimes happens with my SMTP accounts. Then I cannot send emails.

Help! Any ideas?

Hi

The option "add sender's address to addressbook" doesn't work on my computer with the new version 4.71.565 (Win 10x64)

Just nothing is done after I click on the shortcut 'add sender's address to addressbook'

Message format & signature problem

I guess at one time I added a signature to my messages. Now I want to get rid of it and just use the signature choice with the check mark. How do I undo it? Using ver 4.70 for windows.

Somewhat different TIFF error response

I've been reading earlier posts about problems with TIFF files crashing Pegasus, but the posts seem to be a few years old and somewhat different in nature. I'm now having a very consistent problem receiving TIFFs that don't crash Pegasus (I have 4.70, Build 546) but are simply not made available to me via Pegasus.

Every time I open a message with a TIFF attachment from a certain friend (who says others have no problems with these TIFFs), I get this message in my Pegasus: "This TIFF image not supported (upsupported Bits per Pixel) - TIFF image processing error".

If I click OK on the error message, the message opens, but it is completely blank and the attachment tab is greyed out (and totally deactivated). The Raw View, however, is loaded with bewildering information, but of course no image.

I started trying to remedy this by adding both TIFF and TIF to "Content viewers" in Pegasus "Content viewers" and selecting "Let Windows choose and run an appropriate application" - I made sure my Windows has TIFF associated with TPViewer.exe (ThumbsPlus Viewer) and it already does. Nevertheless, Pegasus still gave the error message above, and it opened a blank message with a greyed-out, deactivated attachment tab.

Then I selected "Run this program" for TIFF and TIF - I browsed and selected "TPViewer.exe" - closed and reopened Pegasus - same error, blank message, inactive attachment tab. I tried entering my other image programs after "Run this program" - closed, reopened Pegasus - same errors. However, Pegasus did not crash after any of this. It just won't permit me to access the TIFF in any way, not even to save it.

HOWEVER, if I go to the web-based interface of this same e-mail account, I can easily download the same TIFF to my desktop, click on its icon (automatically marked with a ThumbsPlus icon), and TPViewer opens it without any problem whatsoever! In fact, the TIFF opens in all the other image programs I use, which I have tried in "Run this program" in Pegasus. But with Pegasus as intermediary, I simply cannot access the TIFF file in any way.

Dave

PS: Just tried "Attachment type information" in Content Viewer options - no change in the above behavior.

Just noticed David's FAQ from a couple months ago (Using Peg to send mail via GMail). Been using Gmail to send and receive for years with no problems. Do these Gmail issues apply only in certain configurations? I'm still using port 587 via STARTTLS

Pegasus Mail in PlayOnLinux (Wine)

Hi!

I have just installed version 4.71 in Linux Mint under PlayOnLinux, this is what I did to get it to work:

Install or upgrade as usual, then place yourself in Program folder/library (in my case: ~/PlayOnLinux's virtual drives/PegasusMail/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/PMAIL/Programs)
Rename Renderer.pm to *.org
rename IERenderer.fff to IERenderer.fff.org
rename IERenderer library to IERenderer.org

I am not quite sure yet if this turns off other stuff than IErenderer, I still get Bearhtml help displayed with shift-F1 and html- works.

The important thing for me was to be able to run Pegasus Mail in PlayOnLinux.

The same, or similar, is probably needed in Wine.

MAPIPM download again

Due to the recent upgrade of Pegasus Mail to version 4.7.1, the version of MAPIPM that was included in the upgrade was back-leveled, so you should plan to reload the current version of MAPIPM from:

Sorry for any inconvenience

Note on Pegasus Network Installation

$

Having just upgraded to V4.71, I noticed that the install exe, does not enable you to select a network location, either by mapped drive or Network Browsing.

I do not think that this is a Pegasus problem, but is more likely to be the problem with Network Browsing that has appeared since Microsoft's November Major update For Windows 10 (Version10586).

This problem has occurred before with Microsoft's lamentably untested updates, and is even more acute now with Windows 10, where you are not even told what it is updating, or have any choice whether you want the updates! If you have the Enterprise versions you have more control over how  the updates are delivered.

The solution that works for Pegasus Network Install is to use the explicit IP based locator for the resource when you are asked for the installation location. Do not use Browse as that is where the problem described above will prevent you from seeing your network device. Instead enter the URL in the form:

\\192.168.xxx.xxx\Network resource name\Pegasus Folder name\Programs

For example in our case this is:

\\192.168.1.21\SharedDocs\PegMail\Programs

This is why I always setup mapped shares to explicit  IP number based resources as problems have always existed with Microsoft's Master Browser service, (this is supposed to resolve the Network Names to devices). Mapping drives in this way avoids this problem.

I would be interested to know if others running network versions have the same problem, and, if so, under which versions of Windows.

For the record, we are running Windows 10 Pro x64 and we use ARM based NAS devices (QNAP).

ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8

I've been using ISO-8859-1 forever and am now realizing that there are many special characters, especially foreign ones, that display only in UTF-8.

Before changing the default MIME character set in Pegasus are there any reasons not to use UTF-8 in 2016?

(Note that I still send only text emails)

Tnx :-)

Finding a folder inside of a tray

I frequently will search for a message, and when the results are displayed, it give me a folder name, but I can't find the folder because I don't remember what tray it is in.

Is there a way to search for a folder, that would tell me what tray it is in - or that it is not in a tray, since my eye-ball search of the file listings may be sub-par.

Many Thanks,

Dennis

Folder disappears

Attempting to move a message from New Mail to another folder, nothing happens. When I open the folder list, the target folder is gone and there's a new unnamed folder at the top. When I attempt to open that folder, get message that it must be reindexed. But before I can do anything, Peg shuts down. When I reopen Peg and attempt to reindex the folder, get message: "Unable to rebuild folder, failure opening or reading from master file." After closing and reopening Peg a couple more times, the original target folder is back in place, everything seems normal. This has happened a couple times over the past month, never happened before. Is there something I should be doing to avoid this happening again? Thanks!  ...Steve

How to create a message external to Pegasus that has hyperlinks

$

For many years, I have been generating emails by having a PerfectScript macro create a text file, and then running F:\PMAIL\winpm-32.exe  -J ... .

Now I need to move on (and up!): I need to put links to web pages in these emails.

How can I do it?

Looking at my code, I see that the .txt file contains !M:70, !T:0, SY:1, TO: @LIST6F75.PML etc. lines, but I no longer have the info on what these parameters mean.

Mail sending

I just upgraded to version 4.71.555 build 565 which I see was implemented back in November and I didn't realize. Since upgrading I seem to be having mail sending problems. When finishing an email and going through the check pfrocess before sending it normally went through the Queue Manager where I would have options [open now, send now, copy, delete.

Now those  options do not appear and a blank screen is there BUT at the bottom it will show how many messages are ready to go. I will either have to use the send all queued mail or exit out come back in to actually see what is ready to send.

Is there something that needs changing? I never encounter this problem before

I am using Pegasus 4.7 and the "Add sender's address to.." does nothing. I select "addressbook" then "personal addressbook" and the address doesn't show up anywhere. I have checked thoroughly in the addressbook and nothing. I can manually add addresses but not from an email.

 Any suggestions?

IMAP problems

I've recently upgraded to Windows 10 and my Pegasus program quit working.  After days of messing around with the settings I gave up and contacted my ISP for help.  They require IMAP now, and walked me through the settings.  I was able to download, but could not send at that time.  Now, I've gotten the SEND to work, but now the downloading isn't working!  I mistakenly (today) created two IMAP profiles that are the same, and can't seem to delete either one!  Can somebody tell me how I can delete the profiles so I can get it right?  Also, does anyone have any clues as to why I am unable to download my mail?  I've played with all sorts of port and SSL combinations and my eyes are now crossing!

Access violation with Pegasus Version 4.70

$

A couple of days ago I updated to Version 4.70, build 546. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I've had several errors pop up when I try to open some emails.

The error is:

Access violation at address oo5D9A7B in module 'winpm-32.exe'. Read of address is DDDDDE49

This does not happen will all emails and I have not been able to find in common areas with those that do have the problem. I never had this with the previous versions.

Suggestions?
