Problem with graphics in some websites

$

Most of the time, graphics (pics, diagrams, etc.) in messages sent to me give me no problem in Pegasus. However, messages from certain websites (e.g. BofA) never successfully load the graphics - instead, I get big empty boxes where the images should be, with this message inside:

"An error occurred in the secure channel support (12157)."

Even if I select  "Show pictures - HTML only" in Pegasus, I get no images - just the same empty boxes with the same error message.

Is there something that I can do to by-pass this and see the graphics?

Pegasus Mail 'cloud'

Hello:

I've been using Pegasus Mail for the longest time.

Started using it many years ago when MS software was all I had at hand (and after trying out Eudora), very briefly under DOS and then from W3.11 to XP til I finally managed to leave MS software behind me.

I now use Pegasus Mail in Linux (under Wine) but did not make my switch from a MS OS until I was quite sure I would be able to have PMail as my email client.

In my present situation, I have two Linux setups living on separate drives under the same hardware and for the time being, switch from one to the other according to my needs.

The question is as follows:

I would like to explore the possibility of being able to boot any one of my two present Linux setups and run identical Pegasus Mail installations albeit using one central configuration and mail folder structure so that any mail received or sent from Installation 'A' in Linux #1 would be immediately reflected on Installation 'B' in Linux #2.

The desired effect is that whenever I boot up my rig (Linux #1 or Linux #2) and load Pegasus Mail, there would be no difference whatsoever.

ie: the fact that I am using PMail Installation 'A' or PMail Installation 'B' would be totally transparent to me unless I check which Linux setup I am in.

The configuration data + folder structure would be located in a third/independent drive/partition.
Like a Pegasus Mail 'cloud'. (?)

Does this make sense?
Any thoughts on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Gmail 421-4.7.0 (and similar gcrap issues)

Been getting more and more delayed mail and authentication check fails from gmail (and yahoo but almost no one uses that) in the past maybe two years. Things like:

    host alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[108.177.125.27]
said: 421-4.7.0 This message does not have authentication information or
fails to pass 421-4.7.0 authentication checks. To best protect our users
from spam, the 421-4.7.0 message has been blocked. Please visit 421-4.7.0

4.7.0 information. 22-v6si11112149pfy.169 - gsmtp (in reply to end of DATA
    command)

The problem is of course I never really know if the mail got delivered or not (in case of retries, did the mail eventually go through etc). Or to be more specific, at this point I trust gmail about as much as my neighbour's dog.

And this happens to my regular email account, we are talking 1-5 mails per day here...

Is there anything (easy) to do about this? Make sure you have some option on in Pegasus? Make sure your nationwide provider is doing things correctly? Make every gmail person you know add you to their whitelist :D ?

vs. 4.72 572 problem with "copies-to-self"

Recently when I answer the question, "copy to self" with a "Y"

it says it is copying, but nothing new shows up in the folder.

The folder still contains copies of old emails.

Is it possible to keep images in copy-to-self mails?

$

Our problem is that we regularly have to recommend or explain things to our customers. Therefore we are often copying images directly into the mail body. Unfortunately all embedded images getting lost for copy-to-self after sending. When re-open such a sent e-mail, only a grey rectangle is being shown at the position of the embedded image.

I'm aware that this is a "feature and not a bug" Big Smile to reduce the needed harddisk storage space. Finally it's the same procedure as for attachment. But maybe there an option to adjust Pmails behaviour when copying-to-self?

I know, I could save (or permanently save) an e-mail as a template where all things (embedded images and attachment) are being kept in place. But often my users forget to save the mail as a template and would like to use a former e-mail again.

Maybe this topic was already discussed in past. But at the moment I do not find it again.

emails with missing "Date:" header not visible in local folder - error report (and manual hack hit)

$

Recently, I have received couple of emails which have the "Date:" header missing, I know it is incorrect as per the RFC, but those emails made it through the wires and Pegasus does not cope with it well: In the inbox (IMAP folder on the mailserver), they were listed with empty Date/Time field in the list and could be opened as any other email (so far so good). But: when I moved them into a local folder (Pegasus Mail v2.x format), they got moved but are not visible there.

Some further observations:

- They are not lost; they are stored in the corresponding PMM file; if I open it in a hex editor, I can find them. Similarly, they are recorded in the PMI file (and the date part of the index record is all zeroes).
- even they are not listed in local folder, such emails can be found by searching for some text they contain. The search will find such email and show it in the search result, now with non-empty but incorrect Date/Time (seems it is the date of the last "dated" email before this "undated" email in PMM).
- such emails are visible if copied from the server Inbox folder into local New mail folder (they are stored as CNM files in the filesystem) so no surprise)
- reindexing the local folder did not help (neither harmed) - no change, the undated emails are still physically in the files but still invisible in the list (most other emails got changed their read/unread status which is a bit annoying but irrelevant now)
- it behaves this way in 4.72 as well as 4.73.

Finally, a hack to manually overcome the problem:
(Disclaimer: this is for those who can use hex editor and who don't care if they screw it up...)
- manual patching the PMI file in hex editor and overwriting the zeroes by valid date resurrects those emails. Then, they are shown in the list with that manually forced date and without the Date: header in the message reader (which is fine).

Filtering out phishing emails

I am getting a deluge of emails with "from" addresses consisting of slightly altered names of people with whom I have exchanged emails in the past, and spoofed headers.  They have links, which vary with each and every message.  Spamhalter has been completely unable to recognise these, (hardly surprising, given that there are no commonalities).  Any form of blacklisting based on address, (eg. through filtering) is equally impractical.  Given that Pegasus has automatically created a whitelist based on people to whom I have sent messages in the past, is there any way to use this in some sort of rule-based filter, ("If the sender is not in the whitelist, hive the message off into a "junk"  folder")

Emails look to be downloading but don't show up in the New Mail box

When I check an email account I may see a message indicating that "1 or 2 of 5 messages are downloading but then either just some or none of them show up in my New Mail folder. I have no filters - that I know of....on an earlier instrallation I would get all, say 5, messages but one or two would go to a Junk Mail folder...nothing goes to Junk or Spam....:-((

unexpected network error

Pegasus has been working great until Yesterday when it quit downloading emails.  It determines how many are to be read and then indicates an unexpected error occurred.

First I thought it might be a bad email and went to gmail.com to check.  All is well there and if I delete the new emails Pegasus sees none to download.  Meanwhile when new emails occur Pegasus indicates an error.  I have uninstalled  Pegasus and reloaded ver 4.72 with the same results.  I am puzzled!

Missing message

Today I created, and thought I sent, a long email message to a friend. I was surprised to find though that the message was not in my "copies to self" folder. I then did a search looking for the subject of the message, but did not find it that way. Next I did a search on the recipient's first name, and again could not find the message. Finally, I tried sending a test message to a fake email account to see if I had inadvertently turned off the option to save a copy. And that test message did go into my "copies to self" folder. Is there anything else I can try to find a copy of the message I thought I had sent?

Anybody Having Trouble with or Know Anything About AT&T Email settings?

$

I awoke to my email not downloading. Waited awhile to try again, still nothing. Finally called support and (long story short...) got to Tech Specialist and a fee-based service since Pegasus is not AT&T mail. The guy got on a shared screen and changed a bunch of settings but we still couldn't resolve the issue. Said to check with Pegasus for help. Emails loaded on AT&T Yahoo mail (they changed all servers to YAHOO recently) and it worked. But I don't want Yahoo. At least  I wasn't charged since he didn't fix anything.

So my original settings that worked until yesterday were download "inbound,att.net" and send was "outbound.att.net". Has been working a long time but the tech changed a bunch of stuff to some yahoo addresses and such. NOTHING works. I am left with NO email but at&t which I now can't figure how to access. Is anyone using AT&T as their provider for Pegasus? And if you are, what settings are you using?

I went and reset all back because in the past sometimes my email would take a holiday (haha) and come back working after a time. I'm counting on this but no Pegasus has me pretty angry. Help? Thanks.

Greetings from the GREAT Land OF Texas,

Has anyone noticed(?) you may delete messages or spam without them going to the 'Deleted Messages' folder by just holding down the 'Ctrl' key when clicking the Delete Icon of the Tool Bar.

Can not send messages after upgrading machine from dialup to ethernet connection

testing new install of Peg on new machine.

I have been using Peg 4.21 on an old WIN98 machine with a dialup modem - worked fine for many years.

But now I have moved to a faster internet as a first step in getting rid on landline.

I have installed new Peg 4.73 on a newer machine with XP.

Connecting to internet OK with ethernet cable plugged into new modem/router.

I have another machine also plugged in and working fine, but do not use email there.

After struggling to move old mail over to new Peg install, I try to send a test msg and get this -

SMTP Send Mail Error - you do not have an active SMPT definition....

I went there and entered by SMTP address - mail.earthlink.net

also ran the setup wizard - still does not work (Firefox is working)

When sending mail error message pops up:

STMP network or protocol error sending mail

Protocol error- the server has unexpectedly refused or failed a request made by Pegasus mail

 When downloading mail:

Pop 3 network or protocol error

The hose claims that either the uster name or password you have supplied is not valid.

I've not changed any user name or password. In fact I have never had a password for Pegasus Mail

Moving Pegasus from v4.21C WIN98 to new install/new version WIN7

I might need some help -

tomorrow I plan to fire up my new Dell refurb with WIN7 and hopefully connect to internet OK and download current pegasus and install that.

then I need to move over my mail from the past 10 or 12 or 18 years to the new machine.

old Pegasus install on WIN98 is version 4.21c

I wonder I if just need to copy PMM/PMI and CNM files to MAIL directory and that's that? (and maybe WINPMFUA.PM)

this is what I will be trying unless I have some warnings about whatever issues....

just mainly hoping everything is compatible from old to new Pegasus

Debugging a Cross-Thread Hang on Startup

$

Since I installed the current Windows Insider Preview of Windows 10 last weekend, not sure there's any connection, but it did require a bunch of reboots. Anyway, since the weekend, my copy of Pegasus (v4.72) is hanging on startup. If I Close it, Windows shows a Cross-Thread Hang. At the time, Pegasus is scanning my New Mail folder. I know there are too many messages in there, but it normally only takes a few minutes to open, not all day.

I get the Exit / Continue message when I restart Pegasus, of course.

There are other users on the same PC and they can start up without this problem. I also tried installing v4.73 and that behaves the same.

Is there a simple way to get it going again, assuming there is a problem with an .ini file, a folder or something?

Thanks for any suggestions.

XP Exception error 0xc0000005

installed XP SP on blank drive

installed Peg ver 4.73 newly downloaded

moved .PMM, .PMI, .CNM files from older Peg install ver 4.21 which was on old WIN98 system

Pegaus now working fine - sees old msgs, folders, sends and receives email

BUT - if I click on the box at the right of the address bar (to pull up frequently used addresses) I get an error from Windows saying Pegasus has to close.

this turns out to be an Exception error 0xc0000005

looking into this a bit I found some advice:

I ran memtest86 to test RAM - tests good

I ran  Auslogic registry cleaner

I went to DeviceManager/Advanced/Performance - DEP and added exception for  Pegasus (winpm-32.exe)

still happens every time (also with CTL-SFT-T)

any ideas?

(I can provide the Windows error dump)

Messages disappearing

Hi,

I'm having an issue with pegasus mail.

After a holiday, i had about 300 messages to download. I've been having issues with pmail for awhile, it hangs and i'm locked out. And it does not want to restart. The work around i found was move some of the latest files, until pegasus mail starts. But i probably did something very wrong last time as while i have disabled the spamhalter, i download messages from different identities (separately) and most of them disappear. I can't find them in any folder and i am not versed enough in the program to see if they're there and i don't see them or they are just deleted without going through the delete folder, let alone the junk /spam folder (which does not exist where i look but i see it in the tree) so it's somewhere.

I'm happy with do a clean reinstall, recreate my identities but i don't know how not to lose my 10+ years of emails.

I'm happy to show the mess the pegasus mail folder is - my fault, not the program's fault-  which is due to me moving the program from computer to computer probably in a wrong way that worled.

It is not on my system drive because it's too big, but right now, i'm scared to even use it because of disappearing emails. I don't lose lose them as i have thunderbird and gmail getting most of the messages, i haven't configured them for all my identities but the main ones are being downloaded / saved. But i really like pmail, there are things i can't do with thunderbird in easy manner like i can with pegasus.

I saw the topic "Debugging a Cross-Thread Hang on Startup" so i'm guessing i can do the same but i'm missing a message to which the first poster is replying and i'm guessing it's the instructions.

Messages disappearing

Hi everyone,

I had an incident where pegasus locked and i couldn't get in (not the first time). I usually fiddle with the files until it opens, moving some until it reopens, putting them back where they were. But this time i probably did something really wrong because something is not working properly.

I'm updated to latest, uninstalled and reinstalled pegasus because updating didn't do anything.

Though i have disabled the spam filter because it seems not be working anymore, messages that are being downloaded disappear. There is nothing in junk /spam folder beside the few emails i had left there. There is nothing in the deleted emails folder.

The programme hangs and won't respond until it does when i downloaded the messages. And i just checked, i had 8 messages being downloaded, the programme started not responding, . When i went back, i had only 2 new messages and i have no idea where the rest are. I know they existed because i saw them being pulled and because i get all of them in duplicates (gmail and another box).

I had to create an account on thunderbird to be on the safe side. That programme does not delete, but pegasus is ordered to delete, except this morning, there were some emails that were downloaded properly by thunderbird that did not by pegasus mail, they are nowhere.

Anyway, i'm pretty sure my programme is unstable. What i don't want is losing my emails and the hierarchy, i am open to do a clean install and recreate all my identities, but i'm not sure how to make sure that i have only one mailbox and still keep all my emails ?

My folders are a mess, i don't know when that happened, probably when i switched to a new computer and did a pretty hatched job moving pegasus without changing anything.

I can print screen and show you each level within pmail if that helps. Any help and how to deal with this would be very appreciated.

Pegasus running slow

The program has recently introduced a delay of several seconds when I tell it to begin a new message or reply to one.  I don't notice slowness in other programs.  I'm running Pegasus v4.7 under Winodws 10.  Does anyone else have this problem?
