Moving added mail boxes

$

For a number of years I have been using "added mail boxes" as a way to offload and archive some mail so that I can still access it if necessary. I have found the add mail box facility to be flaky and dangerous to use but by being careful I have managed so far.

In particular, I have created extra mail boxes and stored mail in a folder hierarchy in them. However, I have found that in order to use these mail boxes it does not seem that their path and/or name can be changed. Trying to use another path or name can corrupt everything. I have never understood this; I have just worked with it.

However, I now need to move these extra mail boxes to another location. Is there any way to do this?

I have investigated a little to try to figure out why it works this way. The help instructions give a different impression of how it ought to work so I had always presumed that each mail box would have its own, independent folder hierarchy. However, I can see that the added mail box directories contain only FOL files.

So I went looking through the main hierarch.pm file in Pegasus' "New Mailbox" directory. I can see that it contains references to the external mail boxes and their file structure that include paths and file names. So it seems the external mail boxes are not independent but are hard coded into the main hierarch.pm file. Is there any way around this?

Also, while looking in the hierarch.pm file I noted a lot of garbage entries that seem to refer to long deleted material. Is this normal? Shouldn't those entries have been removed when the items to which they refer were deleted?

I'd appreciate any help.

Multiple Pegasus Mail Processes in Windows 10, No Icon on Task Bar when Minimised / Minimized

After many many many (did I mention, many?) happy years of using Pegasus Mail, and an aversion to moving to another MS OS version when things have "worked" for years too, I finally (kicking and screaming) made a migration to Win10. Not happy times thus far. Of a primary concern is that while I run multiple instances of Pegasus as different e-mail accounts (using command line -i (name) -ms) it seems my configuration (?) of Win10 doesn't display an icon for a minimised Pmail window on the task bar! Yes, I've found I can see it by using the Show Hidden Icons display, but didn't realise this was happening and was getting the message about possible other instances running each time I launched Pmail (yes, that should have been my first clue...). Nah, said I -- no one here but us chickens, so open up Pmail and let me in! I'll use the X button to totally close Pmail upon exit. Same error again, plus some minor function issues. What gives? I ran a process checker and saw multiple instances of Pmail running when in theory I only had one active at the time. Apparently this was due to my not seeing any running copies on the task bar so *ass u me*d it was OK to start Pmail again and that there was a Pmail glitch. Nope, Win10 seems to want to hide the icon for a minimised Pmail running process, rather than display on the task bar like other programs where there is an underlined icon displayed and clicking the icon relaunches the program maximised. So, has anyone else had this issue, and/or how can I force Win10 to display a Pmail icon on the task bar when a Pmail process is active but the window is minimised? TIA all (and multitudes of thanks to David et al for such a robust and amazing program.)

The emails are showing up in pegasus mail and have size and normal attributes.  But, when I try to open one I just get this message,  There is nothing else.  Nothing under attachments.  Nothing.

This only applies to the New & Unread mail folder.  Older folders with saved messages open just fine.

This message contains binary or non-textual data that cannot be previewed within Pegasus Mail.

   Filename:   ÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌ

You can work with this file in the message reader's 'Attachments' page.

I got a new laptop and configured Pegasus the same way as on the older laptop I'm retiring.  But Pegasus does not connect with Gmail on the newmachine.  Sometimes the error message says "bad address" and sometimes it says things i don't understand.

I am using Pegasus 4.7 under Windows 10 Home, Version    10.0.18362 Build 18362.

I need help.

    Recover folder accidentally deleted

I have backups of the whole of the Mailbox directory.

My wife accidentally  deleted a folder this morning. I have found the files in the backup, both the .pmm and .pmi files. I have found the backed up version of hierarch.pm, and the line in which the name of the deleted folder appears.

The parent of the deleted folder is My Mailbox.

She tells me that she has since added and combined other folders.

How can I restore this folder?

I think I know, but just _thinking_ you know can be dangerous!

    email keeps downloading

I've been using Pegasus for years - very happy with it! Only "flaw" is maybe forwarding HTML emails from others, usually "commercial" - formats get lost.

Current issue:  all of a sudden - today - one incoming email to one of my four email addresses seems stuck somewhere - it keeps downloading /new mail every few minutes. Never happened before.

I shut down and rebooted.  With that address open every few minutes I get the "new mail" notification, and the same email comes in, again and again.

    Suggestions? Thanks!

Win 7, Pegasus 4.73.  No recent changes made. My other "main" address seems just fine - normal.

A minor update to FolderPmmRep to enable saving of the displayed report to either default printer or file (default: CSV). The utility reports on all PMM files by name, title and size. The intention, partly to warn of folder sizes closing in on maximum folder size. An additional program FolderPmiRep will report on message sizes within a folder by name, title, size, and original CNM filename. This will aid in identifying attachments that either unwanted or obsolete. FolderPmiRep will be posted shortly with similar functions

FoldrPmmRep is available at Community downloads area as http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/utils/entry52762.aspx

Internet Connection Problems After Last Windows 10 Update

My Pegasus has been having trouble connecting with its POP3 and SMTP servers since Windows 10 updated itself a day or 2 ago (routine June update.) My Windows 10 is the Enterprise version. I don't have any reason to suspect a problem with Pegasus, but I'm hoping someone else here has seen this and has a solution.

What I'm seeing is long delays, about 1 minute, just getting a connection to my POP3 or SMPT server. Once I get a connection, the transmission seems a bit slower, but the real difference is in the upfront wait.

My HR Block tax software was also unable to do an automatic update, which makes me think this is a Windows 10 problem, possibly related to some sort of security upgrade.

Most web browser connections seem to be unaffected.

    Any suggestions out there?

    thanks,

When replying HTML formatted emails, containing different font weights, different paragraphs, enumerations (bullet points) and colored texts - all of these formats will be taken over except the text colors of the original mail. All colored text will be changed to black. Is it possible to keep the colored text as well?

    Strange behaviour

At times, and without apparent cause, Pegasus starts behaving strangely.

The prominent symptom is that if there is a mail or folder list pane overlaying another mail or folder list pane, if I move, close, or shrink the overlay pane will leave that part of the overlaid pane blank. i.e. it won't repaint the area that was covered up.

Another symptom when this happens when I'm composing a message, the compose pane will not go into scrolling mode when I write lines beyond the bottom.

Minimize and then restore the Pmail window MAY or MAY NOT resolve the problem (usually not).  Sometimes it MAY restore just by changing panes or the blanked area changes!

It seems that whatever is responsible for pane management is clogging up.

Closing and restarting is the only sure way to restore correct behaviour.

    IErendrer upgrade crash Pmail

My installation  is currently on a W2012 server share. Over the years this was migrated from Novell to a succession of Windows servers and may have accumulated unwanted files

I need to upgrade IErenderer V.2.50 to V 2.636 but it crashes one of 1 of 3 PC, reverting to V2.5 restores sanity. On a W10 and a W7 Pmail starts fine whilst on another W7 Pmail freezes.
User1 use the W10 and user2 uses one of the W7 PC. (never at the same tie)

Pmail starts to load, the menu and panes are present but all panes are empty, the hourglass times out with a "not responding"

Any ideas how to investigate and fix this please.

Pmail/IER Behaviour when detecting invalid picture attachments

    FYI:

Today we received an email which contained, due to different reply actions, 15 attached images (jpg and png mixed). Now, one colleague tried to answer again but his reply attempt leads to an error message "Invalid File Format" which he claimed with me. I've checked the different attached image files and found out that one png file has a fault extension. It was a bmp file but not a png.

But the remarkable thing is, that Pmail / IER created the error message 18 times, which all have to be confirmed firstly before the reply could be composed. My colleague has already gave up and said Pmail is hanging. I had more patience and after 18 times of error confirmation Pmail proceeded.

The error message itself is OK in case Pmail / IER detects a wrong file format. But why it appears so often?

A little bit different situation, but same symptom:

German PMail 4.73 with IERenderer 2.6.3.5 - everything is ok

Update to 2.6.3.6 (via ierenderersetup.exe in resp. zip-file)

PMail starts and times out with empty panes

    Uninstall 2.6.3.6, install 2.6.3.5

    everything is fine again
