Found Files don't delete on exit

I'm running PMail from a SanDisk Ultra thumb drive (same one since forever) on a new (Win (ugh) 10) Lenovo ThinkBook and it's suddenly hanging on to all Search Results folders.. I burrowed down to "folder behaviours" and found the (to me) rather cryptic check box "Default setting for search results folders is "Delete on exit" -- unchecked and rechecked a few times with no result.

I also downloaded the newest version and installed as an update. No help there either. The files can be deleted manually but as trying to retrieve software keys I lost with the death of the desktop means search after search and it's a major pain.

Anything Win 10 can't bugger up Lenovo tries to and I suspect the problem lies with one of them. In accordance with the Win 10 policy of keeping all possible useful information from the user all Control Panel/System will tell me is "Windows 10 Pro." (&"copyright 2019) It will admit that I'm running it as administrator also.

 Any suggestions?

TIA

I'll post the other new problem elsewhere but in case they go together, I can't get the winged horse's help utility up either. A window appears but it's blank no matter what kind of help I click on.

I do back up the entire PMail folder to another UltraFit, but not as often as I should.
