Pegasus mail not reading correct paths

$

Hi
Using Pegasus 4.63 on Windows 7 Pro 32bit. The configuration files are not on the system drive and I am running as Administrator.

The settings in the Pconfig.cfg read   **PCONFIG  - this should say PMAIL.CFG
Home Mailbox Location \\Giga\Public\MailHome\All
New Mailbox Location \\Giga\Public\MailNew\All

When I open Pegasus I am told the Home Mailbox doesn't exist, however if use a mapped drive for the Home mailbox it works.
Home Mailbox Location Z:\MailHome\All
New Mailbox Location \\Giga\Public\MailNew\All

The UNC paths are seen through Explorer correctly and obviously both Mailboxes exist.

Any thoughts would be welcomed.

Thank you

RogerD

Using certificates to send mail via SMTP server

$

Hi guys! My organisation is using Pegasus Mail & Mercury as main internal mail transport for many, many years. Recently we made some changes to allow our users to access their mailboxes and send e-mails when they are out of office. The SMTP server which is visible from outside of our LAN is Postfix and is configured to allow to external clients to relay messages only if a client certificate is presented. We created and signed the relevant certificates and distributed them to the clients. Everything works fine if the client is Thunderbird, but does not work if the client is Pegasus Mail. It seems to be that Pegasus Mail fails to handle the client certificate during TLS negotiation.

Configuration info:

- the clients used are Pegasus Mail versions 4.61 - 4.63

- the client OS is Windows XP

- the client certificate is imported in the Windows "personal" certificate store

- the SMTP profile in Pegasus Mail is server port: 587, SSL/TLS: "via STARTTLS", SMTP Authentication: "Login to SMTP server using the following details (username and password)"

So the question is:

Does the Pegasus Mail support client certificates for SMTP authentication using STARTTLS negotiation?

SMTP or MHS? First time seeing this error in sending an email [resolved?]

Ref: The address 'xyz@cs.unc.edu' could be either and SMTP or an MHS address. Please use an IN: or MHS: override on the address so WinPMail knows where to send it

I received the referenced message above (I put xyz in place of the actual mailbox name) when trying to send an email just now - I've never seen this before. The only thing different is that I just got a dialogue box about enabling graphics display with an HTML message and took the recommended "yes" option. How can I debug and resole this error? Thanks.

P.S. I tried several times but tried one more time and it now works. I still will send this to see if there is a new intermittent problem for me and if there is anything that I should do to prevent it.

Followup comments on original message disappearing with reply or forward

I found an answer on the Forum to the problem of the original message disappearing when replying or forwarding.

I unchecked the box that says "Where a choice of format exists, display the fancy version". But now, when I print one of those messages I only get the

headers printed.  So I'm going back and check the aforementioned box and do the copy and paste thing whenever necessary. I need to be able to print out my messages.

It sure would be nice to know what line(s) of code is screwing this up.

Pegasus hogging my CPU!

$

I have realized that Pegasus is behaving in a way that I find strange and don't understand.

When Pegasus is left loaded but not being used, its use of my CPU rises to 50% and there is lots of disk access. Then, if I do something with Pegasus the CPU usage drops to zero for a while. But when I stop using it, it soon goes back up to about 50%. This seems to go on indefinitely (longer than I have had the patience to watch it). Can this be normal?

It has occurred to me that Pegasus might be doing some sort of housekeeping. I do have a lot of mail in my mailbox. But I would think that would end eventually. The thought also has occurred to me that Pegasus might be infected with some sort of virus. However, I have not found any references to such by searching.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on?

I am using Pegasus 4.63 on WinXP SP3.

moving messages over from old machine to new when basic installation has changed

Hello,

running under wine now, but the problem is this:

1.  old installation connected to a server, did not have to connect to internet and do pop & smtp

2.  new installation is standalone, does its own pop3 & smtp . multi-user

3   when I set up the new installation we can fetch and send mail fine

4  when I put _all_ the files from the old mail directory into the new mail directory = trouble ...

5   we then lose network and user management and can no longer do pop & smtp

So my question is what are the minimum files to transfer over to recreate the directory structure and all the emails and leave to configuration untouched?

I have tried deleting PMAIL,CFG but this does not do the trick. we still end up with no network connection.

My idea is these files only. .CNM  .PMM .PMI and hierach.pm , but this is a big job and I'd like to get it right first time!

Am I on the right track?

Messages and folder disappeared

Hello,

after having successfully repaired/kicked out the "strange happenings" desribed by kathyfb that I found some days ago in my incoming mail folder, I have actualized Pegasus Mail v. 4.63 (Win 32) build 325 German version on Vista Home Premium SP2.

Everything seemed to be ok Geeked, I found all my folders and messages and can retreive new messages from the mail server and send new ones.

But a new problem has emerged: when I write messages to a certain friend and choose the appropriate "copy to self"-folder for the copy [Raimundo] , the messages are sent via the waiting queue but the copies disappear and cannot be found in [Raimundo]. Embarrassed I can find and open them via the search option but the folder [Raimundo] that contains the messages cannot be seen in the list of folders.

In the same way one folder with more than 5000 mails has disappeared from the list of folders Super Angry, but the messages it contains - not the folder itself! - can still be found through the search option.

What is happening on my computer and what can I do to make messages and folders reappear to the surface?

Thanks for your comments from Estonia. Katharina

Outlook sending Winmail.dat

One of our users is using Outlook to send emails via our mercury server.  attachments send by this user are winmail.dat attachments so other users need to use Fentun to save tham before they can open them which is a pain.  Is there a way to set Outlook not to do this?

Splash screen distorted

Since I installed PM on my new laptop the splash screen looks distorted with the splash screen background enlarged in comparison to the blue PM 'Pegasus' splash screen section (see screenshot). While it is only an aesthetic issue I still wonder what caused it and maybe how to fix it.

Any idea?

Thanks

Pegasus Mail 4.63 hanging when starting

$

Hi, since one week I'm having problem starting Pegasus Mail. I start Pegasus, specify my username, then there is the usual spash screen and isntead of prosecuting with the usual deskop layout the program hangs on the "Restoring desktop layout ..." splash screen.

Initially this behaviour was happening sometimes, but, as the days pass, seems to become more frequent. This morning Hi've tried to restart my laptop 3 times but without any positive result.

I've updated the rs:IERendererandBearHtml as indicated in this post "http://community.pmail.com/forums/post/31478.aspx) the failure percentage increases", I've tried to reinstall PMail 4.63, with no result.

My laptop hais Windows 7 64 bit, patched to the last Microsft updates. Office 2013 64bit and Adobe Acrobat X installed among other SW (but in the last week I don't remember having installed new SW).

I did a system disk clean up (including old system files) some days ago, but I don't think this is related having not discovered any problem with Pegasus Mail immediately after the disk clean up.

I'm a user of Pegasus since its beginning and moved all my email from PC to PC and from a Pmail version to the other without any significant problem. Pegasus is installed on this laptop since 1-2 years and never had this kind of problem.

The Task Manager doesn't indicate any activity performes by the winpm-32.exe process.

Any hint? TIA

Ciao

P.S.: I was not able to find tags dealing specifically with the above problem like: "hangs", "frozen"

Autofiltering is not placing "copies to self" in appropriate folder. Why?

$

HI,

I set up and started using Autofiltering awhile back. What a great idea and it worked great too (at least for awhile.)

Something happened and it has stopped "filing" replies (copies to self) in the correct folder.

It keeps placing them in one particular folder. I'm not sure why.

Fwiw all incoming mail gets autofiltered into the correct folder. So the filing is working in that respect.

Just the copies to self of outgoing mail isn't "filing" correctly. .

I've looked to see if there is a general "Mail filtering Rule" which may be conflicting with "Autofiltering" but don't have any "Mail Filtering Rule" set up, so that can't be it.

Any help would be appreciated.

text search in message folders

$

I'm just now learning about searching for text in messages in my mailbox, etc. PM finds what I need but doesn't tell me where the message was found. At least I can't figure out where I might find this information. Reason being I need to find and relocate a lot of 'Copies to Self' that have been tossed rather randomly into folders where they don't belong. A header text search finds all the messages to any given recipient but then I'd like to know where they are so I can move 'em.

Thanks for any advice...

Messages Missing from Main Folder

$

I am using Pegasus 4.63 build 325 on both a Win XP desktop and a Win 7 laptop.

According to the Main folder directory, my Main folder contains no messages more recent than 2011. However, I can locate and open more recent messages with a text search, so they obviously still exist. Checking the Main folder for consistency and reindexing it did not make them visible in the directory.

Examining the PMail/Mail folder on both computers, I see that I have a 10MB mail.pmm file and a 32MB mail.1.pmm file. Are my hidden messages somewhere in the 22MB discrepancy between the two? Is there a way to make the full contents of my Main folder visible in Pegasus?

Thank you,

Terry

IMAP not showing any actual messages.

I have installed Pegasus on a Windows 7 Netbook and set up IMAP connections to a user account on our Mercury server using both its external and internal IP address and tested the internal on using our internal wireless network and the external on uaing the wireless hot spot on my phone.

Either version will connect to the target account and show the number of emails read and unread in all mailboxes including the IMAP inbox.  However is any folder is actually opened then the folder shows as empty after a dealy when the system is apparently trying to read the folder.  No error messages get displayed.  It is JUST possible that this user has his account open on a phone too also using IMAP, however having displayed his full folder list including the quantity of read and unread messages I would expect to be able to open a folder and see the actual emails therein.
