Outlook connects but Pegasus does not

Greetings.  I am working to configure Pegasus.  I have checked the POP3 and SMTP settings with the server for my website, and they are all confirmed to be correct.  MS Outlook connects with no problem using these settings, but Pegasus both on my desktop and on my laptop finds the password wrong.

Is there any advice in a case like this?  I would much like to use PM instead of Outlook.  Thank you.

Pegasus "is" working normally except when I tried to send a specific email with an xls and pdf as an attachment, to maybe 8 folks in a group. A Reply All send of an email. And I got the Connection timed out Trace info, ending with what is shown above.  The list of addresses shows first, then DATA, then the error is the last line.

And I get a "Mail Delivery Failure." email every time it fails to send, referring to a generic TCP/Ip failure.

I've sent other emails, they go first as number 1 in the queue, then the failure box pops up on number 2, which is the email now stuck in the queue.  But I got a copy of the email in my other gmail account.

What have I done wrong?

Win 8.1 and Pmail 4.63

Pegasus 4.63 does not start in Win 8.1 (64). The program is installed in c: \ program files \ pmail. The only thing that happens when I start the program, is that the Pmail logo flashes for 1/10 of a second on the screen. The program seems to be installed correctly and everything seems to be ok in the directories.

IMAP unreliable with Yahoo mail. Is this provider specific or the client?

I'm finding Pegasus's IMAP performance with Yahoo mail rather poor. (I'm using Yahoo mail's free, standard version, which supports IMAP.) The connections seem very fragile and unreliable. Pegasus frequently reports error advisories from the server, there are inconsistencies between what Pegasus shows and what's shown in Yahoo's web-client, folder refreshes fail, disconnections abound (though Pegasus doesn't call them that), and many of what Pegasus reports as server-errors cause it to completely crash. (These occurrences are quite frequent.) Are others experiencing the same?

I'm wondering if this is client related (i.e. poor handling of IMAP errors in general) or if Pegasus has more compatibility problems with Yahoo mail than it does with other IMAP servers. I'm also wondering if it could be related to any of the issues discussed here. That discussion is a few years old, so things may have changed since then, but some of the issues discussed there are: non-protocol handshaking by Yahoo and that Yahoo's IMAP is biased towards 3G use and doesn't like Wifi connections.

Would I get better IMAP reliability in Pegasus using a different provider? Pegasus does seem to work better for me with other IMAP servers, but my experience is not a fair comparison since my other email accounts are very low-volume usage compared to my Yahoo account.

Pmail wants a User Name when I modify pmail.cfg

I have successfully migrated Pmail 4.63 from my XP computer (SATCHEL) to my Win7 Computer (SNOWY).

C:\Pmail\Programs\winpm-32.exe launched from Windows Explorer works fine, with <default> as ID.

Short cut C:\Pmail\Programs\winpm-32.exe -A -ID imadunce@myisp works fine, with imadunce@myisp as ID.  I can send and receive mail.  So far, so good.

I want to run Pmail from either SNOWY or another networked computer, SATCHEL.  (The 2 computers are in the same room, so if I'm on SATCHEL and my wife is on SNOWY, I'll just ask her to close Pmail on SNOWY.)

So, per thread 28494 (Thomas Stephenson), I use C:\PMAIL\Programs\pconfig in DOSBox to change the HOME and NEW mailboxes to \\SNOWY\OS\PMAIL\MAIL\~8.  I use a hex editor to confirm that C:\Pmail\Programs\pmail.cfg. has changed the mailboxes and increased slightly in length.

After only that change, when I launch Pmail from either Windows Explorer or my shortcut, the splash screen appears, with a box on top asking for my Pegasus Mail username.  It won't accept imadunce@myisp, or A, or Admin, or random cusswords.

Deleting pmail.cfg and relaunching, choosing Only User and the default C:\PMAIL\MAIL makes it work again on SNOWY, but when I try to run it from SATCHEL, I get a couple seconds (SATCHEL is slow) of Pegasus splash screen, and then nothing.

Any ideas what's going on?

I am using Pegasus 4.63 with 2 users on a windows XP computer. One of the user mail boxes opens normally. The other one hangs on the start up screen and will not open. Can anyone suggest a way to fix this problem. It would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Hi not sure whether this should go on the Mercury or Outlook threads....

One of our users who has used Outlook in the past asked to use outlook here and despite being shown the IMAP folders for her account on the server set up new personal folders on her PC.  We now need to transfer the emails stores there back to the server, is there an easy way to do this, ideally we would like to merge the messages into the existing folder structure on the server rather than just drag the folders across and end up with two similarly named sets.

multi Mail system error returns

I am getting 10-20 mail undelivered errors per day. I am using Pmail v 4.63 under windows 7. I suspect there must be something sending emails on my behalf somehow; there is nothing in my copied to self folder, just multi-messages from Mail Administrator reporting sent emails to random email addresses mainly to Germany and the US. I have tried Spybot but it came up clean. Is this a problem with Pegasus or indicative of a virus?

Can't Add new Tray or Folder after Migration

$

Good morning,

Last week I migrated Pegasus to a new computer (Win 8 x 64) - incoming / outgoing works just as designed and no problem.

Files transfer from the new mail folder to other folders without a problem - the ONLY problem I have is not being able to create a new tray or folder!!

When trying to create a new folder (or tray) Pegasus freezes! The only way to shut down the process is via task manager.

I welcome any advice as to where to look for the issue and how to rectify.

Thanks in keen anticipation.

Transferring mail from Thunderbird using Aid4Mail

Hello. I am trying to move my old mail stored in Thunderbird to my Pegasus Mail. I used Aid4Mail to convert the files but don't know how to transfer them to Pegasus Mail. Any help will be appreciated.

Can I incrementally download emails from server?

I presently have a very large number of emails in my inbox of a web-based provider. I want to download them into Pegasus, but do not want to do so in one download. What I'd like to do is download a certain number at one time. I've already tried selective mail download but for some reason, the headers quit downloading somewhere along the line.

I also tried just downloading, and then cancelling part way through. That worked fine in that it downloaded the messages until I cancelled, but it did not delete the messages off the server. (I read up and see that the messages are removed at the end of a successful download session).

Any ideas as to a way to either (1) troubleshoot the selective mail download; or (2) figure out some other way to incrementally retrieve emails with those retrieved being deleted off the server?

 Thanks. John.

Painfully Slow Deletion

I'm running PMail 4.41 on XP SP2 (details below) and am having a problem with slow deletion.  In  my options, I have "Preserve deleted mesages until Pegaus Mail closes" and "'Deleted Messages" folder persists between sessions" checked.  My mailbox folder is 139 MB, containing 1,132 files.

When I delete a single message from the New Mail (or any other) folder, I get an hour glass cursor, and it takes about 4 seconds.  When I select multiple messages (5-6), it takes about 15 seconds, and the screen goes blank white except for the blue bar at the top and the Windows task bar at the bottom.

The slow deletion has been a problem for some time.  The blank screen during deletion is new.  Needless to say, this behavior is irritating.

 Anyone got a cure?

 Thanks!

Problems using a memory chip on 64bit Windows7 laptop

Hullo Forum

I have recently changed my memory chip on which I keep Pegasus 4.63 and which moves between a desktop XP machine and a Windows7 64bit laptop.

Whilst Pegasus on the new 16gb chip reads fine when attached to the desktop, either in standalone mode or as an archived mailbox hanging off the desktop's version of Pegasus, it fails when I try to open any folders on the laptop at which stage I'm told that the folder is damaged and cannot be opened. The suggested re-indexing doesn't work - and as there is plenty of space both on the new chip and on the laptop, it wouldn't appear to be a space problem.

Pegasus is also installed directly on the laptop and runs fine in this mode.  But the laptop doesn't allow me to "add (the chip as a) mailbox" to the folder list.

I have seen the threads about problems with Windows 7; mine doesn't seem to be (exactly) the same issue for my previous chip worked reasonably well on this Win7 laptop.

Another strange thing about this problem is that the internet wizard pops up every time I try to open the chip-installed Pegasus on the laptop. (But not on the desktop; that setup works fine.)

Any hints how to overcome this weird problem would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Johnny

SPAM Halter getting all of Copies to Self . .

Greetings from Texas, USofA,

My 'Copies to Self' are not being saved in the mailbox that was assigned the task of storing them. Even if I use my own addy in the To: field when sending to some friends it still lands in SPAM HALTER.

Have checked the filters and they are still the same as when setting them up and they worked just fine for almost a year. Any Replied mail is also being placed in SPAM Halter folder.

Any ideas would be a HELP!!

Hi all,

How can I change the standard mail program in Windows 8.1?

In setting 'change standard protokoll' I only can choose between the defaults 'MAIL' and 'MS-MAIL' or 'search APP in Windows Store'.

Pegasus doesn't show up anywhere.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance,

daniel

Copy command edits address

Hi

Today I copied an address: Subscriber.xxxxxx.Bulletins@ebulletins.co.uk from within Pegasus Mail. The address was in the body of the message, and was a mailto: link. I right-clicked the address and chose the option to 'Copy address to clipboard'.

When I pasted it the address had been adjusted and appeared as mailto:Subscriber.xxxxxx@Bulletins@ebulletins.co.uk

I understand that having two dots may be unusual for an address but I'm surprised that the address has been edited. Is this intentional or do I have a problem with Pegasus Mail?

Thanks!

Pls show recipient (not sender) in "From" column of "Sent" folders

In Pegasus's local "Copies to Self" folder (the default location for copies of outgoing mail), it very sensibly shows the recipient rather than the sender in column 1 (even though, as in all other folders, the column-header says "From"). Is there a reason why it doesn't do the same in IMAP folders called "Sent"? It would be very helpful to be able to sort such folders by the value in the "From" column -- but only if it shows the recipient; it's pretty useless sorting such folders by sender when the sender is the same (yourself) for all emails in that folder.

Perhaps this is something the development team for the beta 5 version could consider?
